Aquaponics Backyard Systems
By K Bray
Backyard Aquaponics Grow your own organic fish and vegetables in your backyard. On a global level producing enough safe food to meet the demands of a constant growing population is becoming more and more a daunting challenge. To grow organic crops fresh water and soil is required and there is no new soil being produced so the demand at some point is going to over ride the supply.

Aquaponics Gardens Take A Little Time Before Being Ready For Planting
An aquaponic garden is a much different way to grow plants than what people are accustom to, but they are very simple to set up and to maintain. There are some things about this way of farming that people will have to learn and get used to. But after seeing the results it can produce and the simplicity of the system, it can become a life changing experience for those interested in growing their own food.
                                                 ...oooOooo...

Aquaponics is the marriage of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soilless growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. The fish waste provides an organic food source for the growing plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the water the fish live in. The third participants are the microbes...

Choosing Where To Locate Your Aquaponics System

There are many great advantages to growing vegetables and fish in an aquaponics garden. Getting started and maintaining this kind of system is very simple, and it can be a lot of fun. In order for this system to live up to its potential and produce exceptional results, there are some details that you will need to get right.

Indoor Aquaponics - 3 Reasons Why Indoor Aquaponics Gardening Makes Sense
By Michael Harradine
Lets face it. Old traditional ways of gardening sre becoming a thing of the past. Most forward thinking people look towards better ways of optimizing their time and efforts when growing food. And one of the best ways to do that is aquaponics. Aquaponics is becoming a very popular way to grow food plants in a sustainable environment. It relies on the tendencies of fish (discharge) and plants to help each other.

Aquaponics-A Sustainable Food Source For the Future That Conserves Water and Resources
Developing sustainable food sources to meet the demands of a growing population is a challenge. The availability of fresh water is increasingly limited, especially in urban areas, along with land and resources for producing crops and meat. In Australia, for example, water restrictions are in enforced in most regions of the country that prevent people from

Commercial Aquaponics Training
I meet new people almost every day who are interested in pursuing commercial aquaponics and ask me for direction. They usually have no background in farming, hydroponics or aquaculture but are looking to take their lives on a new path. They want to be a part of the unique potential for global change that commercial aquaponics offers.

The Symbiotic Relationship of Aquaponics
The symbiotic relationship of aquaponics is much clearer if you understand the ways in which each of the farming methods offers up its faults to the other, and gives back by accepting faults for itself. A complete ecosystem can be achieved just by allowing nature to do what comes naturally - correcting itself with adaptation.

Aquaponics Digest A journal Diary

Living in Aquaponics.
Yes, I guess thats me and I wonder how many others might put their hand up.
Sure I do all the other things needed around this place, but it only takes a thought or a comment that could remotely have its roots somewhere near water, fish or plants and Im back in my happy place.

Ive had a thought and decided to attempt to scribble something about it, just to see where it takes me I guess. It goes something like this (dont forget these are only ramblings of a senile mind):

I can divide in my thinking, gardeners into two groups.

  • Those who, when they started, found they could grow certain plants successfully and so  they became addicted to that group possibly expanding it as they developed their expertise.
  • Those who, because they had trouble with their earliest attempts at growing certain plants, became adicted to experimentation and improvement in that area.
Now Im sure you can think of many other divisions and sub divisions that could replace or be added to the above but I felt within myself that I could have sliped into one or the other of those two at a very early point in my gardening life.

Of course we are all capable of walking in both of those camps and need to do just that. But there are those who can go to the nursery and buy two thousand dollars worth of plants in or almost in flower, poke them in the ground, wet their heads and sit back and be proud of them.

Likewise there are some who would get no personal gratification from that what-so-ever. Of course there is no right or wrong here, only differences.

This is where gardening, sustainability, aquaculture and all the other variations are so perfect at filling the needs of man. We just simply grow into and eventually produce the fruits of our gardening interest. We send out roots to gain nutrients in  the form of knowledge, understanding and expertise. Then we take these nutrients and apply them where they are needed so that not only does our garden flourish but we are bigger, better, brighter and more worthy to ourselves and to others. (Well thats what I hope for each of us)

O.K. the rants and raves are out of my system again, so back to work:

First up is a pdf guidebook covering A/P or at least an introduction to Aquaponics

Recipes for Success; What’s in the Water? Pond Pollution Investigation; Expanding a Small Business With Hydroponics/Aquaponics;

I love forums. This is where we can all Learn

THE MONDAY EDITION OF THE AQUAPONICS DIGEST

I was asked how come I call these digests Monday, Wednesday and Friday editions when they are dated Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Quite simply, Im in the "Land Down Under" and we are reasonably close to that line that separates today from tomorrow. So in order to put it out at a time that sort of coincides with the middle ground, I decided in my moments of stupidity to do this thing at around midnight. But I have a feeling that this really isnt necessary so I do believe Im about to have a change of heart and put it out earlier.

San Diego County contains more small farms than any other U.S. county, according to the county Farm Bureau. It’s home to about 6,000 farmers and 6,565 small family farms and is the country’s top producer of avocados and nursery crops. Farming contributes $5.1 billion in annual value to the county’s economy, according to the Farm Bureau. It takes the $1.5 billion value of the county’s crops and multiplies by 3.4 to obtain a total economic value for agriculture.

Nitrogen in Aquaponics
Posted By Nate Storey on Oct 9, 2013

Why Nitrogen First?

In the world of human economy, politics and society, there are many different currencies, all of which are traded for goods.  This could be oil, US dollars, Facebook Likes or Grandmas cookies.  The natural world has similar currencies- trading in oxygen, carbon, and perhaps the most precious currency of all: nitrogen.

THE WEEKEND EDITION OF THE DIGEST

So, we meet again and again I welcome you to this Weekend edition of Ozzies Aquaponics Blog:

And from Murray Hallams Forum:
Aquaponics in schools

Hi Murray
Murray I have been asked by 2 schools (1 in Brisbane and 1 on the Sunshine Coast) about aquaponics and one of the questions they have is how many other schools have a system in SEQ.and could they have a look at one ?
A person from the school has seen a aquaponic system already but I think they would like to talk to someone at the school about how they went about it.

If anyone else has an idea on this I will pass the information back to them.

Commercial Aquaponics
meet new people almost every day who are interested in pursuing commercial aquaponics and ask me for direction. They usually have no background in farming, hydroponics or aquaculture but are looking to take their lives on a new path. They want to be a part of the unique potential for global change that commercial aquaponics offers.

I usually counsel them to start by reading my blog post “Commercial Aquaponics: 10 Things to Consider Before Taking the Plunge” and take the time to

Home Aquaponics Systems
Home aquaponics systems are opening up the possibilities for many people to grow their own organic food. A lot of people who may not have a fertile plot of land or even outdoor space at all, are finding aquaponics to be both practical and a lot of fun. This is very important, because if something is enjoyable, people are more likely to stick with it.

Ok Friends That should do for now. Just a clarification The Aquaponics area of the web is fairly saturated with Aquaponics 4U which you will have noticed I have steered well clear of. This is causing me some concern as it means that my sources are being filled with the one thing. with no doubt as many trying to sell it as there is people to buy it. If Im right that is not profitable except...well I;m sure you can figure that one out. The other thing worth mentioning is You may notice that Im introducing areas  related to A/P that should be benificial to our blog members and visitors. O.K. Thats a Wrap
