In the pursuit of happiness

The pursuit of happiness - oh yeah. The world is rushing by. I have tried to get through school the normal way...with a job and such but its not working. Unfortunately I know my rights and am pretty ballsy. I am not afraid to stand up for myself which has led management at work to fear me. Fear causes chaos in this sense. They watch me, target me, speak of me, but wont look at me and rarely talk to me. Management is poor at Wally World anyway and the company...well were slaves that is all. We are given incentives to stay with them so we wont go off and see that the world can be better. Clearly Im not happy here. The issue is that this place has turned me into a grump. Things I could normally handle in life are no longer tolerable. Im not super woman...I can only take so much tension.

So my crazy plan...QUIT! Yes thats right you heard me...Q-U-I-T! But in this economy? April you must be MAD! Yeah quite frankly but I can sit here worrying about the economy, be miserable, and not take the chances that are coming to me, OR I could do something about it.

But what chances???

Most places I have applied for (grooming salons, kennels, vet assistant jobs) ALL require experience. Now I find out shelters GIVE this experience. So why not run with it? I is my life after all!

But how will I survive?

Its not like food doesnt come from the Earth...

Ok well honestly some foods dont but do I really need those?

Everything else isnt expensive. Toilet paper, detergent (which I make), soap (which is also my detergent), toothpaste...thats like $10 every three months. Its not like I pay rent. Why am I not taking advantage of such a thing?

But in all honesty I do plan on getting some cash in the form of candle making. Soy candles with hemp wicks = very little pollution. Yes they are hard to find and, for some reason, are expensive. No they are not expensive to make. hmmm. Im not planning on getting rich. Even with the job Im with, I cant afford school and either way would need financial aid for it.

So my PLAN!!!

1) save up $2000 ish. Can probably be done in a couple of months. This is for stuff like a bike, pots, and plants.

Thats it.

The cleanup crew

Ok Ok Ok so I havent been posting often. I am starting two new blogs based off other things and have decided to keep this one open because...I have quite a bit of web traffic (most of you looking for Portal cake ingredients.)

Two new blogs are specific. One will be tips and tricks about HOW Im going to eventually own a house like the one above after graduating from UC Davis Veterinary school. These will probably be weekly posts.

The next one will be a test. I have given myself a $150 food budget for two people. Trick is that I have to buy ONLY locally grown organics and environmentally friendly stuff. Any time I dont (including gas) I will donate $1 to an organization. At the end of the month, my selected organization will get money.

All former posts will be locked with the exception of ones with recipes. This blog will continue to be my life blog.

Stuck

"Youre in such a hurry to grow up"

That is what he said to me today.  Lets go back in time though.

When I was in high school, I wanted to just get out.  In fact, I wanted to move to the bumfuck middle of nowhere or at least a place surrounded by nature.  I wanted to see trees, creeks, or plains when I looked out my window, not houses.  I wanted a koi pond and an altar outside.  I wanted children and a husband and to be free.  I wanted...security.

Now lets go forward.  I want to get out and move to the bumfuck middle of nowhere...well somewhere in the forest.  I want to see trees when I look out my window, not houses.  I want a koi pond that surrounds my altar outside.  I want children and to be with this guy I love so much forever and to be...free.

Wait...same thing is it not?

So maybe it isnt so much that Im in a hurry to grow up, just in a hurry to finish a dream I have carried with me for over four years and havent even started on.  I know that Im jealous of all of my friends with children...they made it work.  Hell the best friend I have in the previous post is a babysitter...and that is it.  I have a job and likely make double (if not triple) of what she does.  But theyre making it work!

again...happy for her...just jealous. 

It really didnt help since it was something I wanted but got back on the pill to make him feel better.  That is ok though because now I am doing stuff for me.  I need to start living this dream I had when I was a teenager.  Clearly it was more than some little phase.  No, I want need this serenity.  I havent had a place of my own to just chill in years.  It is clearly not that I want to grow up too fast but rather Im just stuck being a jealous teenager even at the age of 21.  I hate him sometimes...I really do.

Seriously I had nothing better to call this blog so I gave it an actual name. I just Googled cool names and randomly picked three.

Anyway, this blog is about yesterday and this morning up until now.

So yesterday was the hardest day ever...in a long time. I had trouble getting out of bed. Just didnt really have a drive. I havent been very me-ish lately...so I hope everyone forgives me for that.

I tried to make coffee but the coffee maker had odd smoke coming out of it. OK well I was warming up old coffee from like last week to use in conditioner (which adds shine) but my coffee maker looked like it was going to blow up.

Four hours after I attempted to get out of bed, I finally got to my bus stop to go to school where I was going to finally finish my English work due. Some lady asked for the time so I told her. Big whoop right? Well then she decided to tell me her life story. Her name is Teresa and shes an alcoholic. She went to jail for drinking and just got out on parole but started drinking again.

So Im stuck talking to an alcoholic till my next bus comes. FML?

I made the mistake of telling her how I understand that getting into rehab is hard (after all I know someone that tried but didnt get in till she ended up in the hospital) and then Teresa went on and on and on blabbling drunken words...when finally my bus came. WIN

What got to me is it took her to relapse before she saw she needed help. For those of you that didnt know where my original screen name (sober drunkenness but spelled differently) came from, its from that. It was originally drunken sober but apparently at the time someone had that ID on Yahoo. Anyway it came from people like Teresa. People that become intoxicated but finally figure out what they need to do all along. Its almost like theyre blinded while sober and fail to see things how they are but see what a mess they have become once they are intoxicated again (which usually helps them stop) and thus, having drank themselves sober.

so now ya know.

Anyway while on the bus, Thim calls and says we besta hit up the library for some junk.

Just as a not-so-side note, I figured out our problem.

So we were on our way to Arcade library (which I thought was Del Paso) to drop off books. That was cleared up and I now know that one as Arcade (or Arden Arcade) library.

Now Thim called Hagginwood, Del Paso, but is for sure not Del Paso. Hagginwood (also known as North Sacramento) is on Del Paso Ave but Del Paso library is on Grand Ave. Its the whole Sacramento being theoretically correct.

ANYWAYS

Thim, Alyssa, and I went to Hagginwood library (on Del Paso Ave) to go to an anti valentines day party (or something like that) lol. It wasnt big. It pretty much consisted of me, Thim, Alyssa, a gal that worked there, and a guy named Daniel. We played brawl and did Bingo where everyone won but Alyssa which was lame on her part. Then we had a piñata that was shaped like a heart. I was oldest so I struck first...however I hit it hard enough to destroy it in one hit. LAME.

Then I went home where I ate a crap load of junk food. Man I really need to cut back. But, I was hungry and it was the first thing I saw unfortunately.

And so now it brings us to Friday (today yay I guess maybe) and me being at grandmas. Well I was sleepy and wanted a blanket but when I went to open the door, the knob just kept turning. WTF I was locked in!!! I tried a number of things. Finally I found an old safety pin which had a mickey mouse head (most of the ink used to create the head rubbed off from it being from the 90s...yup) and opened it up to help prop the door opened

but now Im not even tired anymore...how lame.

And my newest addition which JUST happened, the discovery of the most ironic computer name since windows.

Piece of Candy

Ok guys, I WANT a horse. Im GETTING a horse.

Let me tell you some history about my pets. Spyro was acquired from some family that carelessly bred dogs. Out of all of the dogs they have milled, Spyro is the only known survivor after 11 1/2 years. He was from his moms second litter and has a small defect (his last set of ribs curve slightly outward instead of in) but I love him anyway. My aunt had all of her current dogs taken by SPCA which is awesome. She is not allowed to own any more animals due to the fact that the litter found in her house was infested with fleas and stepping in everyones poop (including the cats which also had babies.) I guess you can say Spyro is one lucky man.

Loki was adopted from my county shelter. I couldnt find the dog I was looking for (both dogs I applied for were adopted and one was returned a week later) so we chose the little guy huddled in the back of his kennel all by himself. He was a return and had attacked the vet twice. He was to be re evaluated that day and possibly put down. Needless to say, he still hates vets but loves us.

Luna wasnt always Luna. We actually had a tweaker come in our yard so we adopted a pit x american bulldog pup that we named Zeus. Needless to say, he wasnt much of a fighter. Oh no he LOVED everyone. Unfortunately, Zeus was an impulsive choice which ended up as a bad choice. The cutie was given away and ended up at a shelter later. I kept an eye on him though and he was adopted out to a wonderful family with kids. Yes they posted on the county site...he has grown so much. It didnt feel right...It felt wrong all over. Someone left a very cute dog in our yard and she took off. This made me feel only 1000 times worse. So...we found someone else that had impulsively gotten a dog. This lady, now jobless and homeless, was specifically looking for someone into raw feeding or that fed a certain dog food. Low and behold, we sometimes gave our dogs that kibble but the boys have been raw fed for a while. Luna is now a part of our family.

Im into adoption...really.

The ranch I started working at specialized in arabs. My ex managers horse is a beautiful pinto arab gelding and my old partner is a gray (gray meaning white in the human world) arab mare. The gelding was rescued when he was just a colt from an abusive home. My partner was a rescue from someone that starved her. The other school horse, a chestnut arab, was broken in such a harsh way that her "trainer" actually broke her jaw. She was sentenced to death when my manager found her and paid for her jaw to be fixed. At my second ranch, I was working with a black mustang mare that was born wild. She was one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Ever since then, I have wanted to rescue rescue rescue. I wanted to buy a mustang and rescue all of my dogs and cats. I want to give them all a second chance at life.

but beggers cant be choosers right? Choosers cant be beggers either.

This...is a gypsy horse. As you can see, they are terribly fucking beautiful.

On top of being beautiful, they are apparently really nice and smart. Its like the class president of Perfect High School that is super beautiful, smart, funny, and super nice!

As far as rescuing goes...hahaha! These horses arent common in shelters. Would I feel guilty for buying one? Yeah about as guilty as someone eating a piece of dark chocolate after promising to diet!

DAMN YOU BEAUTIFUL HORSE!!!

But anyway...I tend to have a heart of gold which will eventually save my ass. I cant diet because I always make some sick sad excuse on why I need to eat that piece of triple chocolate cake. My dearest boyfriend should have seen it coming...our ranch full of dogs and cats that were put on death row. Of course, I could always say that I rescue these cats...a sanctuary for animals that are otherwise unadoptable (such as feral cats, old as fuck dogs....) I hear this takes away property tax as well...suhweet.

...after I buy my horse though....

Our Aqua Cycle of Life

So much has been written about AP and the cycling of systems and understandably so. This is the one thing we must get right. Every person having a go at AP has to come to terms with the cycle, the size of the pond, the amount (and size) of the fish, the quality, type and amount of the fish food provided, the water quality and quantity and the cubic area being used in grow bed production and how all of this fits together.

Of course if we read a lot of whats on the www, you are sort of led to believe that just about any combination will be OK provided the water quality is OK. Well this not true. There is a vast difference between what is acceptable and what will bring really great results over an ongoing system life, which after all is what each of us should be aiming for.

So I thought I should get some sites that give a better indication of what is the safe path to follow.

We need to be aware that despite what some people claim and there are many great stories around with claims of success after success but not too many people are prepared to include figures showing fish losses,  or other problems that have arisen that would help others to get through the tough times as they learn the craft.

So we are going to dedicate some effort into searching for figures that could be of help.

However while we are doing this, we shall continue to provide as much associated info as possible with each issue. Like Now......

Different types of Aquaponics

NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) - A method of growing plants in which a thin and even film of  aerated nutrient solution flows down a channel into which the roots of the crop are suspended. It is very important to filter the water well before sending it to an NFT trough since fish waste in the trough and on the plant roots will negatively impact the plants growth.  NFT aquaponics requires separate solids and bio-filtration.  While the reduced amount of water needed to fill the system may seem like a benefit, it can mean greater temperature and water quality fluctuations in a short period of time.

DWC (Deep Water Culture) - DWC is often referred to as Raft where the plants grow suspended over a tank of water in which nutrient rich water flows with supplemental aeration.  In most situations filtration needs to occur before fish water is sent to the raft area of the system.

CHIFT PIST (Constant Height In Fish Tank Pump In Sump Tank) -  Maintaining a constant volume/height in the fish tank with a sump tank at the lowest point and a fish tank at a higher point.  The pump lifts water from the sump tank to the fish tank and water flows from the fish tank to the grow beds which drain back to the sump tank.

CHOP (Constant Height One Pump) - Basically the same thing as CHIFT PIST.  With CHIFT PIST there has not normally been a distinction between the variation where the fish tank drains back to the sump directly and the pump pumps to the grow beds and they might drain to the sump or the fish tank.  With CHOP it was normally assumed that the fish tank got the water from the pump and drained to grow beds which drained to the sump.
CHOP2 - The variation of CHIFT PIST where both the fish tank and grow beds drained to the sump and the sump pumped to both the growbeds and fish tank
Flood and Drain- The plant growing space is allowed to flood and then drain either by the use of a pump on a timer to fill the bed and then allow it to drain while the pump is off or by the use of a siphon or other intermittent outflow device where the bed is constantly filling and then the siphon will drain the bed quickly.
Advantages: providing ample oxygen to plant roots and bio filter bacteria without the need of extra aeration.  Many plants like some dry time especially if the water is not super aerated.
Disadvantages: Water level needs to fluctuate in the system to provide the water for flood and drain.  Flood and drain offers more media to air than media to water interface which can have an exaggerated heat exchange effect on water temperatures.

Ebb and Flow - The same as Flood and Drain except you are usually pumping up through the bottom of the grow bed and then when the pump turns off, you are draining back down through the pump.

End of the year resolution

So my new years resolution was to find someone that would love me as much as Id love them...to actually learn to trust someone I could spend forever with. I found that...but now I have a new goal...

I have come to the conclusion that this year isnt going to get any better. Usually the year doesnt crap out on me till around November but its pretty bleh right now. I cant just wait around for January. I have to be stronger especially since its likely Christmas will come around and just shit on me like a sick elephant that took a ton of laxatives.

So first thing is first. First on my list

1) get a job. The most important thing. I have applied from Citrus Heights to Natomas. This is a tough one...but one of my issues is lack of money and lack of places to vent and spend alone time...due to lack of money. A lot of my issues would be solved if I could take care of myself.

2) create a "to do" list where I list everything Id need to survive on my own and everything I want. I have very few wants but...hey. So far it includes
-Getting freeway groomed
-getting spyro neutered
-get a job
-buy my own printer/paper
-buy detergent free laundry soap so my skin can stop killing itself
-buy a bicycle
-learn to drive (this will very much not even happen till the end)

3) Convince grandparents they dont need the mac or the wireless router. In general it has only created problems for them. If I took the Mac they could put the printer where it stands...thus making me able to connect it via USB. This printer is terribly slow via wireless...no joke. And with no need for a wireless router...

4) Do something Adam would totally enjoy and could brag about later...just because I love him

5) Pass school so I can get financial aid next year


And my other list of things I want to do for the community.

1) Spay at least two litters of kittens

2) Donate to a church that feeds the hungry/helps the community (likely Thim/Kings)

3) Volunteer at a hospital/shelter (in progress)

Month of Doubt

lets see...still no power at my house. I dont mind being cold...thats totally not the issue. Its the fact when I go home I cant clean or do anything. Nobody talks to me there and I cant even get online to talk to anyone. This is why I think "death row" inmates should be given a cell with a window, no light other than natural, and no power. They cannot have contact except for cell maintenance (toiletry and such) and food. Its a real killer in itself. And I severely want to move...or need to. Since it will be me and some other person that is likely Adam, I probably cannot take rats. Its a hard decision but...its probably whats best. I mean I could take em...theyre only costing me like $30 a year to feed and with a job I could afford to get bedding which could be....$20 for 40lbs of bedding that can be kept in a cage for 3 weeks...theoretically I can keep em.

Animals arent even the biggest problem. There are quite a few places that wont charge me extra for them.

Biggest are utilities and rent lol.

The cheapest place in the entire city is $450 not including trash which most apartments include. It is a tiny studio downtown.

I wouldnt be so concerned about power if I lived alone. I mean if most of you have spent more than a day with me, youd know I never think of turning on the heater and only turn on the a/c when Im about to pass out. I dont watch tv so....

My dearest Adam loves xbox...a huge expense when it comes to saving cash. This means operating a tv and a system.

Dearest Adam will have to learn to love games a little less...spoils cant be kept up in a tight situation.

On top of me needing to move, my ID is lost. What can someone do with it? Well I dunno. I dont think anyone looks like me and Im under 21. My issue is getting a replacement...yikes! I dont have the money to do that plus will have family yelling about how irresponsible I am and always will be.

Even though my sister lost like...5 drivers license before she hit 18. This is my 2nd ID...my first expired.

Another reason why I need to move out. Im not a toilet and wont continually take all their shit.

By the way its settled. When I get rich I want a toto or some type of power flush toilet.

Totos now have a quiet lit so if it falls or someone tends to slam them down, instead it has a motor or something to lower it.

or a dual flush. We dont need that much water to flush urine.

Library card is also gone. The rest of my cards I dont think anyone cares about. A marrow donor card, a petco card, a petsmart card (both places I rarely shop at anymore), and a blood source card.

Anyway...still no power at my house. I dont mind the heater being gone...its the friggin not being able to see anything in my room.

And school stressing me out. Oh well.

Not having a good semester so far.

But hopefully I will get a job soon and fill up my black people frig haha. And get my dogs back. Then I will be to the extremes of happy =]
